Hope you all had a wonderful Easter break! It's been so lovely seeing everyone return refreshed after days of great weather, delicious meals, and quality time with friends and family. The sunshine has given us a tantalizing preview of the summer days that await just around the corner.

This Friday marks ANZAC Day, when we pause to remember the brave soldiers who fought at Gallipoli. As our Kiwi, Aussie, and Turkish friends know well, this day honors the sacrifice made by all sides in that historic campaign. We'll be serving fresh-baked ANZAC biscuits all day alongside our signature Flat Whites, so please drop by to share in this special commemoration.

The café is bursting with fresh spring produce and new seasonal specials and a menu update are just around the corner, which we can't wait for you to try. Our set lunch will continue to run until the end of April.

Have a fantastic week, everyone!

Rob & the Tried & True Team

Every year on April 25th, Kiwis and Aussies around the world pause to honour ANZAC Day - a special time to remember those who served and sacrificed in war, especially the soldiers of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who landed at Gallipoli in 1915.

Here at our little corner of New Zealand in the UK, it’s a day that brings our community together. Whether you’re popping in for a flat white or a fresh batch of Anzac biscuits, it’s a chance to share stories, reflect on our roots, and pay tribute to the spirit of those who came before us.

The Gallipoli campaign wasn’t a military success, but the bravery, resilience, and mateship shown by the ANZAC troops left a lasting mark. It helped shape the identities of both New Zealand and Australia, and the legacy still runs deep today. It's not just about remembering the fallen - it's also about honouring the values they stood for: courage, endurance, and looking out for your mates.

Back home, ANZAC Day kicks off with dawn services, followed by parades, wreath-laying, and shared moments of silence. Even here in the UK, you’ll find gatherings in places like London’s Hyde Park, or in small cafés (like ours!) where expats and friends gather to honour the day in their own way.

And yes, Anzac biscuits will definitely be on the menu - no eggs, just oats, golden syrup, and tradition. Originally baked to send to soldiers overseas, they’re now a delicious part of ANZAC Day and a sweet way to connect with the past.

So whether you’re a Kiwi far from home, an Aussie mate, or just someone who enjoys a good yarn and a great cup of coffee, we invite you to join us this ANZAC Day. Pause, reflect, and maybe raise a mug to the ANZAC spirit - it’s something truly special.

Lest we forget.

What goes well with an Anzac biscuit?

There’s something nostalgic and comforting about biting into a golden, chewy Anzac biscuit. Whether you’re honouring ANZAC Day or just craving a taste of home, this classic treat deserves the perfect partner.

Top of the list? A flat white, of course. The smooth, velvety coffee balances the biscuit’s sweetness beautifully. If you prefer something bolder, a long black adds a nice contrast to those buttery oats and golden syrup.

For tea lovers, a strong English Breakfast or a classic Earl Grey is a winning match. The warmth of the brew brings out the biscuit’s toasty, caramel notes - it’s like a hug in a cup.

Not into caffeine? Try it with a spiced chai or even a hot chocolate for a cozy combo. And for something a little different, a cold glass of milk or a creamy oat latte pairs surprisingly well - soft on the palate and just sweet enough.

Whether you dunk it, nibble it, or grab a second one (no judgment here!), the humble Anzac biscuit is best enjoyed with a warm drink and good company. Come in and find your favourite match!
