Welcome to Saturday morning of the Easter Weekend. Congratulations on making it almost a third of the way through 2025! This week I've been thinking about one of my favourite subjects. Coffee! I love coffee and have enjoyed the taste, ritual and effects of the beverage ever since I can remember. So this week I've taken a dive into the health benefits of this fantastic beverage!
We're open at Tried & True today, closed Easter Sunday and open again at 8.30am on Monday morning. If you're about we'd love to see you!
Why Coffee Is Good for You
Coffee does more than just wake you up in the morning—it contributes to a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle in surprising ways. From the science-backed health benefits to the subtle ways it enhances our social connections, let's explore why your daily cup at Tried & True might be one of the best habits you've developed.
Physical Benefits Beyond the Buzz
Research continues to reveal coffee's impressive health profile. Regular coffee consumption has been linked to reduced risk of several serious conditions including type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and certain types of cancer. The antioxidants in coffee—more than in many fruits and vegetables—help combat inflammation and protect cells from damage.
Coffee also supports physical performance. The caffeine increases adrenaline levels and releases fatty acids from fat tissues, improving exercise capacity and endurance. Many athletes rely on pre-workout coffee to enhance their training sessions.
Mental Clarity and Emotional Wellbeing
That mental lift you feel isn't just in your imagination. Coffee improves various aspects of brain function—including mood, energy, reaction times, and general cognitive function. For many, it's a reliable tool for improving focus during challenging work or creative projects.
Coffee rituals also provide psychological comfort. The predictable morning routine of brewing a cup can become a mindful moment of transition, helping you center yourself before facing the day ahead.
The Social Brew: Strengthening Communities
Coffee has always been about more than just the drink itself. Coffee shops like Tried & True serve as community anchors—places where neighbors become friends, ideas are exchanged, and relationships deepen.
Think about how many important conversations in your life have happened over coffee. Job interviews, first dates, catching up with old friends, family gatherings—coffee provides both the setting and the comfortable ritual that helps these connections flourish.
Family Traditions Around the Cup
Many families build traditions around coffee. Sunday morning conversations at the kitchen table, holiday gatherings, or weekend trips to the local café create lasting memories and strengthen family bonds. The smell of coffee brewing often becomes associated with comfort, home, and togetherness.
For parents, coffee shops offer a family-friendly environment to teach children about community and introduce them to social settings beyond home and school. At Tried & True, we love seeing multiple generations enjoying time together.
